FUGLY FRIDAY – NOT SO NICE KNITS

When you cozy up this fall and winter, here are some looks to avoid. It’s unfathomable why anyone would choose to wear tattered sweaters that look like they came out of their Mima’s attics. Sure distressed denim is hip and cool, but there’s something about a shreaded sweater that has a cheap hobo look. Nothing says, “I look homeless,” more so than a sweater with holes in it.

Sweaters with animals tend to veer on the juvenile side, but this whale sweater from Anthropologie, priced at $360 is downright frumpy. I wouldn’t wear it if you paid me that much. Cut-outs in clothing can be super sexy, but if you need a cut out in your pits to cool you off, then maybe you shouldn’t be wearing a sweater.

While I’m a huge fan of TopShop’s offerings, their knits leave something to be desired, or “jumpers” as they are known in jolly old England. Just say no to Yes sweaters. By wearing knitwear that has “HELP” blazoned across your chest, you are literally crying out for help!

BASIC INSTINCTS – BLACK & WHITE STRIPE SWEATER

Right now I’m all about Cool-Cozy. What does that mean? Well I’d like to bundle and be warm, but I refuse to get all Cosby-sweater and sacrifice my style. A basic staple in my closet is an oh-so-Gwen (Stefani, duh!) bold black and white striped sweater. This piece takes me to work paired with a wide leg trouser and weekending with an off the moment brightly colored skinny jean or leather leggings. This look can be as simple or as funky as you want it to be and is also multi seasonal. I look for versions with a twist, like this Brandy & Melville chevron stripe, or one with varied stripes.

Be cool AND warm!
