ANATOMY of MY FALL UNIFORM

Jeggings + Tunic TopsComfortZone Denim Knit Leggings $26.95 at New York & Co, Triple-ruffle Sweatshirt $29 on sale at Newport News, Naughty Monkey Kryptonite Boot $189.90 at Endless.com, Plaid Cape $128 at Ann Taylor Loft.

This look is a little English countryside chic and 100% cozy!  Let’s just say, jeggings jeggings jeggings – I can’t stop saying jeggings.  That’s jeans + leggings if you’re not already in the know or in a pair.  After shopping about for the perfect pair of skinny jeans, a friend turned me on to the jegging.  I exhausted my search possibilities and was dismayed that I was turning up either leggings that were just a denim print or if they actually had pockets and real denim styling they were $98 or more.  Then I found the New York & Co. jegging that has real back pockets, plus faux front pockets and a faux fly AND they come in three freaking colors:  a medium blue, a deeper indigo, and black.  This jegging is as comfortable as wearing a t-shirt and cost just $26.95.  Not even my most comfortable jeans felt this good.  I’ve flown in them twice.   When sporting a jegging or a legging, you really want a longer top.  I’m loving this tunic ruffle sweatshirt.  My own wardrobe really lacks stylish easy comfortable casual wear (I’m all sequins and glitz; I shop like I think I’m Lady Gaga).  When it comes to Sunday afternoon errands or meeting up with friends I never have the perfect outfit to just slip on;  this outfit really helped me to define that aspect of my wardrobe.

This look cries out for a pair of really fabulous knee high boots.  Every year I like to splurge on a pair of knee high boots that have some really special detailing and are also comfortable.  I’m loving this extra long tassel and the buckle detail on these rich chocolate Naughty Monkey boot.  To finish off the look top it with a plaid cape like this one from Ann Taylor Loft.  This is the look I’m living in right now.

TREND ALERT – FUR VEST

Faux Fur Vest, Rachel RoyRachel Roy Faux Fur Vest $149 at Macy’s, Faux-fur Rachel Vest $60 at Fred Flare, Du Monde Faux Fox Fur Vest with Belt $149 and Damselle Faux Lynx Fur Vest $98 both at Nordstrom.

This look is so very Rachel Zoe inspired.  Very ba-nanas, right?  Shopping for fur tends to be pricey so it’s not so cents of style, so if you’re shopping this look on a bit of a budget you’ll have to opt for faux.  You’d probably also opt for faux if you’re not so into killing vermin for fashion.  Faux furs have come a long way, but often cheap faux furs tend to look like stuffed animals.  Rachel Zoe has a line of faux fur vests on QVC that have a striking resemblance to the real thing, but they are currently sold out.  Others that are worth taking a look at include the faux fur vest by Rachel Roy for Macy’s pictured above on the left.  I’m also loving the all black styling here: tapered black pants, black platform pumps and an over sized studded fold over clutch also by Rachel Roy and available at Macy’s.  Styling tip:  fur vests tend to be bulkier items, so wear slimmer more body conscious pieces underneath!

TREND ALERT – PLAID SHIRTDRESS

Plaid ShirtdressTheodora Pixie Dress $98 at Guess, Anna Plaid Dress $44.50 at Delia’s, Plaid Shirt Dress $39.90 at Alloy, Plaid Ruffle Tunic $24.95 at American Eagle Outfitters, French Connection Dark Grey Plaid ‘Chatussa’ Belted Dress $125 at Bluefly.

This piece is 100% grunge worthy and perfect for knockin’ around town and chillin’.  Don’t just throw on an ole men’s flannel shirt but look for plaid shirtdresses that have some feminine tailoring, and a fitted or belted waist.  Ruffles are also a pretty detail. Pair with leggings or super dark skinny jeans and a bad ass pair of cage booties and you’re ready to spin some of your old Nirvana albums.

FALL FASHION – IT’S HERE! WHAT I’M SHOPPING FOR RIGHT NOW

Fall Fashion - Bebe, Modcloth.com, Urban Outfitters, ExpressLeatherette Washed Moto Jacket $69 on sale, Sula Paint & Peel Nail Polish $9 Ulta Cosmetics, Poppie Jones Milla Zippered Clutch $29.95 on sale DSW, Jeffrey Campbell Slipstream Wedges $129 at ModCloth.com, Deena & Ozzy Chain Tote $58 at Urban Outfitters, Tiers to You Dress $59.99 at ModCloth.com, Editor Luxury Stretch Chocolate Plaid Pant $79.50 at Express.

Early fall has me craving neutrals like putty gray that are an alternative to black.  Bebe has leatherette bomber jackets in a slew of colors including dove gray.  For nails, this Paint & Peel Sula polish has revolutionized my home manicures – it doesn’t chip and when I tire of it, I simply peel it off in one tear – no nail polish remover!  Clutches with hardware are still super chic – zipper details are hot.  My love affair with Jeffrey Campbell shoes and boots continues they offer style and comfort at unbelievable price points.  Every woman needs an every day tote – this two toned bag is fab with chain and zipper details and for $58 will hold mags, shoes, and so much more.  Recently I’ve been browsing Modcloth.com and loving their selection of super stylish dresses for all occasions – I’m all over this tiered ruffled dress in steel gray, it’ll go with any accessory palette I have a whim for.  I worship the Express Editor pant, love the fit, this brown/gray plaid will be the perfect work meets fun pant and will go with a ton of top options.

I’ll freak out if I don’t have a perfect dark rinse skinny jean with a bit of spandex in the fabric blend for tucking into tall calf high and over the knee boots (boots post coming soon!)  This super embellished French Connection dress is a splurge for the season – the beading work is whimsical and retro.  I’m planning on wearing this early fall bare legs with skyscraper black platforms; later in the year, I’ll wear it with tights.  One of my favorite day looks is a sheath dress with an open cardigan and a funky wide belt – I heart this poof sleeve cardigan from Anthropologie with this Urban Outfitters tiger chain belt.  My favorite fall fabric plaid goes Mad Men – I’m wearing this now with peep toe pumps and later with knee high wedge boots.

Coming soon more on: skinny jeans, plaid, leopard print, shirt dresses, jackets, boots and accessories…

Fall’s here, and I’m shopping!
